GW-scale energy storage power stations have significant development potential. Currently, there are plans to establish GW-scale power stations in China.
1) GW-scale energy storage power stations can coordinate control with renewable energy power stations by receiving dispatch signals from higher-level systems, which enhances transient frequency response characteristics during the integration of renewable energy into the grid. Additionally, the rapid voltage and reactive power regulation capabilities of the energy storage devices enable local reactive power compensation, thereby mitigating voltage fluctuations caused by the connection of renewable energy sources to the grid.
2) As a frequency regulation resource, gigawatt-scale energy storage offers a sufficiently large capacity, operating costs significantly lower than those of conventional frequency regulation power sources, and rapid response capabilities that minimize the impact of frequency fluctuations on the power grid.
3) The gigawatt-level energy storage power station is sufficiently large to provide grid-scale power storage services. It stores energy during off-peak periods and releases it during peak periods to support grid operation, thereby enhancing grid stability and increasing the grid's economic efficiency.
