Guatemala's photovoltaic market has experienced rapid growth over the past 5-10 years, evolving from virtually nothing to become the most mature and largest market in Central America in terms of installed capacity.

Guatemala's commercial and industrial electricity prices are among the highest in Latin America and globally. This makes PV systems extremely attractive for industrial and commercial users, with a typical payback period of 3-5 years, a key factor driving market growth. Guatemala's tropical location, long hours of sunshine, and high solar radiation intensity are ideal for PV power generation, ensuring high efficiency and economic benefits for PV systems.

The continuous reduction in the cost of PV modules and systems globally has made PV power one of Guatemala's most cost-competitive energy sources, even cheaper than purchasing electricity from the grid. With economic development, Guatemala's electricity demand is steadily increasing, and PV systems can serve as an effective distributed energy source, alleviating grid pressure and providing businesses with a stable and reliable power supply.

Furthermore, Guatemala implements a net metering policy, allowing users to feed excess electricity back into the grid and receive a percentage of that electricity bill as a deduction. This is a key policy supporting the development of distributed photovoltaic power.
